📖 Reading Comprehension (Questions 41–50)
My grandfather was a school teacher who had almost thirty years of service.
The most interesting part of his career is that he served in the same school
from the start of his career till his retirement. The school was situated in
a village, around 10 km away from our ancestral home.
The rural setting of the school, the intimacy with the villagers and his colleagues were factors that made grandfather happy. He never liked missing even a single day at school. The children also used to maintain an intimate relationship with him.
Grandfather used to narrate the stories of the villagers to us. The most touching story was that of a girl named Ponni who had lost her mother at a tender age. Her father was an irresponsible fellow who had taken to drinks. Ponni did not have sufficient funds to continue her studies, though she was brilliant.
Under grandfather's initiative, the PTA and some kind-hearted people raised funds to facilitate Ponni's higher studies in the city. Years later, Ponni came back to the village as a successful journalist.
People were excited to see Ponni on the television screen reporting the swearing-in of ministers from the capital city. Tears of joy sparkled in grandfather's eyes when he saw one of his disciples reach for the stars.
